Prescription questions, answered
What's the difference between prescription sunglasses and prescription eyeglasses?
Only the lens tint. Both start from the same Madson frame and the same prescription. Prescription sunglasses get a polarized tinted lens for outdoors; eyeglasses get a clear lens for everyday wear. Many customers order one of each in the same frame.
Single vision or progressive: which do I need?
Single vision covers most people. Choose progressive if your prescription has an ADD value, which means you need both distance and reading correction in one lens.
How do I get my prescription to you?
Three ways: upload it during checkout, let us call your doctor's office for it, or email it to support@madsonofamerica.com after you order. Include your name and order number.
Do I need my PD (pupillary distance)?
Not up front. If your PD isn't printed on your prescription, we'll show you how to measure it at home in about two minutes.
How long does a prescription pair take?
Prescription orders are custom-built in our lab. Please allow 7 to 10 business days for your lenses to be cut and fitted before your order ships.
Can I use my HSA or FSA card?
Yes, on prescription pairs. Prescription eyeglasses and prescription sunglasses are eligible HSA/FSA expenses. Non-prescription sunglasses are not. Pay with your HSA/FSA card at checkout like any other card.
Are the frames the same as your non-prescription frames?
Yes. The Rx line uses the same frames, including the XL fit built for larger heads, which is the piece most opticians can't offer.
