HSA/FSA & Insurance
Use your HSA or FSA on Madson prescription eyewear
Prescription eyewear is a qualified medical expense under most HSA and FSA plans. Add your prescription to a Madson frame and it is generally eligible.
What is eligible
- Prescription eyeglasses
- Prescription sunglasses
- Prescription lens upgrades — progressive, blue-light, coatings, and polarization — when part of a prescription order
What is not eligible
- Non-prescription (plano) sunglasses — even polarized. The IRS treats non-prescription sunwear as a general/cosmetic expense, so it does not qualify.
- Non-prescription frames and general accessories
Exception: with a doctor’s Letter of Medical Necessity, some non-prescription items may qualify — if your plan administrator accepts it.
Paying at checkout
Use your HSA or FSA card at checkout just like any other card, as long as it is a Visa or Mastercard. A couple of things to know:
- The full order must be on a single card — checkout can’t split payment across two cards.
- If your HSA/FSA card is declined (some cards restrict non-clinical merchants), pay with another card and submit your itemized receipt for reimbursement.
Itemized receipt for reimbursement
Need documentation for your FSA/HSA provider or for out-of-network vision-insurance reimbursement? We provide an itemized receipt on request — showing the items purchased, amounts, total paid, and a frame/lens breakdown where needed. Email support@madsonofamerica.com with your order number.
Out-of-network vision insurance
Madson is an out-of-network retailer. If your plan offers out-of-network benefits, you pay upfront, then submit your carrier’s claim form together with our itemized receipt. Reimbursement timing and amount are set by your carrier.
Eligibility and card acceptance vary by plan — check with your HSA/FSA administrator before purchasing. Reimbursement is not guaranteed. This is not tax or legal advice.
